…:: The King Of Sri Lankan Music ::…

End of 60^th decade and in 70^th decade was an important period for the pop-up music in the world because the golden period of pop-up music was started in that duration. Elvis Prisly was called as the king of pop-up music. At the same time Clarence Wijewardane who skilled in that time duration was the king of Sri Lankan pop-up music. He who created those thousand of songs was born in 3^rd August 1943 in Haputhale as the elder of his family.

     He who started his music life in 21^st was a Guitar player, musician and a director. He worked like that with his friends by constituting a music group name of Moonstone. While he didn’t sing songs in that time duration, he confronted only for harmony. While he was finding a songstress for the moonstone group, he met Anesly Malewana. Mr.Wijaya Koreya who was the program, executive of radio gave them a chance to publish their music with wireless. He did it after recognizing their skills in 1966.  In 1966 they could create some new songs which were recorded in radio station. Some of them are “Mango Nenda” , “Ruwan puraya” , “Seetha ude” and “Menike”. They could broadcast their songs in wireless at 9.00 pm – 9.15pm in Saturday Star Program. The songs which  were famous could make those people who were used to hear only English songs hear Sinhala Songs. After that he could make changes in Sinhala Music by Introducing electric guitars for the Sri Lankan music.

     Clarence who researched in music built a new foundation by inserting peradiga & batahira music .  While Ravi Shankar was inserted to the ‘Beatles’ music group in England as a Sitar player, Upali Abesekara was inserted to the moonstone group as a sitar player to make changes in Sinhala pop-up music of Sri Lanka . After that first E.P disk ‘Mango Nenda’ was released in 1968 under JVPC007 Philips label . Mango Nenda , Ruwan Puraya , Seethe Udaya etc were in that album.While 5000 of copies were sold , the second release of  that group was released November in the same year. It was named  ’More Hits by the Moonstones ‘with the first label of Sooriya (CHB 001). “Kalu mama” , “Rosa male” , “Ramani” and “Goyam kapanawa” songs were there. ‘Mango Nenda’ song which was broadcasted in radio in ‘Hit Parade’ program selected as the best sinhala song .A new songstress joined the moonstone group in 1969 . That is Indrani Perera . 1969 was an important year for the moonstone group because ‘Dilhani’which was the best sales in Sri Lanka released in that year at the same time an immortal man was born in moonstone group.

     He who served as a music director is Mr. Clarence Wijewardane . ‘Dileepa Podi Puthu’ song what is the first and last song which he sang with moonstone music group . While it was a poem what Abesekara wrote about his son to the Silumina News Paper, with his permissions Clarence Wijewardane converted it to a song . After that Clarence who left moonstone group started a new group of The Golden chimes with Shanaka Perera.The first song disk of golden chimes was released in January 1971.Kimada nawe , “Mage pelpathe” , “Sihin sinawai” and “Samanalayo” songs were in that disk . As the main songstress Lankika Perera joined golden chimes group .After that as the English singer Anil Bharathi joined there but guidance of Clarence they entered to sing sinhala songs.    Their second disc was released in June 1971 in Philips label. “Malai velai” , “Sihil nuwan” , “Surangana vesvala” and “Mage viyowen” etc songs were there and also their third disc was released in August 1972.Iru dina , Sandai tharui , Muhudu rella and Thakkita tharikita etc songs which were released in Sooriya label were there.Clarance got a chance to direct music in the film of Sikuruliya which was directed by Mr.H.D.Premarathna. It was supplied music by Golden Chimes group. At the first time Clarence designed two songs and supplied music for Mr. H.R Jothipala in the same period. It is “Mal pibidena eka wasantha samayaka and Hiruta muvawela” . Clarance who left Golden Chimes group in 1972 started a new group with Anesly in 1973.It’s name was  “The Super Golden Chimes”. First disc of this group was released in Sooriya label. “Kanda surinduni” , “Seetha sulanga” , “Pena bubulai” and “Sathuta senasuma” , songs were there.

     That period was the golden period of Clarence’s music life. He could design songs for others. He was able to make new signers for the music field and design new sons for famous characters in the music field.   While music was directed in “Sikuruliya” , “Mangala” , “Apeksha” , “Chathumadura” , “Chalitharangali” and “Chandi Shama” by Clarence, He joined “Sihasuna” , “Kolamba Sanniya” , “Janaka saha Manju” and “Siuranga Sena” etc films by singing. Clarence was able to make changes in Srilankan lele drama. He got an opportunity to direct music in “Suseema” and “Nidikumba mal” etc tele drama. “Suseema” can be introduced as the first musical lele drama. At the same time the drama of  “Nidikumba mal” which theme song was sung by Mr.Amaradewa, theme song was designed by Clarence Wijewardane.  That is the one and only song designed and applied music by a man.

At last he participated for a Group in1982 .That is ‘Madara’ Music group. In that group…     Clarence Wijewardane – Leader   Rukantha Gunathilaka  - Key board  Mariyasel Gunathilake – songstress/Key board   Raju Bandara – Lead guitar  Kenet Silva – Bass guitar  Ajantha Dampaha Gamage – Drums  Prabhath Bandara – Lead guirar      Group music could be referred into a new way in 70^th decade, it was done by Clarence. He has done many designs for other singers. At the same time those everything was famous. While he has done designs for over 115 singers, and participated for over 1000 songs.

     The least ability of the world music composition ,direction and singing. A little force can do it in the world. Clarence is the first one of them in Sri Lanka. None could break that record .After 1991 he was sick very often. After that he decided to release his all albums.Collecting his all creations he released 16 albums. Any one can hear his songs and those are attracted. That is the special of his songs.      

The service he has done for our music        

•  For the first time he created sinhala songs by using electric guitar with   moonstone music group. 
• “Udarata niliya hedawage” song was created by using a traditional   dancing music. 
• When Sri Lanaka got an opportunity to test matches he   created a cassette about it.  
• The first songstress music group’s first song was written and applied  music.
• Music was created for Mrs.Rukmani Devi, “Pemrajadahane” song.
• To the first time a song was created in Sri Lanka for the (SAARC) conference. 
• In that moment when “Magul Etha” died he created a song for “Magul Etha”,its “Kandu Sikarin Wata Senkadagalapura”. It was sung by Mr.Ananda Perera leader  of “Siha Shakthi” music Group.

Constructed by prince saliya in 140, A.D.  Thereafter, during the period of 1955 to 1957, this tank was re-constructed by the Irrigation Department and then Mr. C.P. de Silva was the Hon’ble Minister of Irrigation and Mr. A.E.C de S. Gunasekara was the Director of Irrigation Department. Capacity-

     This reservoir supplies water for  over 800 of families and the distribution of areas of was has been  divided in to  two parts as Left  and Right banks. Fragment of left bank has 1053 acres and right bank has 1611 acres. The total of floor area is 2664 acres and including the areas in  which non-permitted water supply there are about3500 acres. The Mahavilachchiya Reservoir is supporting to animals, farmers and fishery peoples for their day-to-day activities. There are seven farmers’ clubs in left bank and right bank. In these two banks, left bank has four farmers’ clubs and right bank has three farmers’ clubs. Left bank farmers’ clubs are Kavanthissa, Gamini, Saliyamala and Wijaya and Right bank farmers’ clubs are Perakum, Gemunu and Mahasen. The irrigation system has two brooks for left bank and right bank. Brook in Left bank long  5kms and right bank brook long  13.5kms. The water level must become 22 feet in left sluice and right sluice must be 17 feet for spill over this pond.  

     Mahavilachchiya tank Sathara Maha Devalaya made in 2004.the mahavilachchiya civilians celebrate offering milk rice and observing gods in each year. They  do it before August. That is the  rule which  comes from generation to generation. They  expect water and their healthy making this celebration every year. This celebration comes before this tank was built in 2004. Many civilians participate in this celebration and as well as the villagers,  government institutes, private companies, farmers and all the sub villages.  This was reconstructed in 1977-1983.it has not been reconstructed after 1983.The bunt of a canal is damage in the two brooks. So we can’t take water for paddy-fields and we can’t manage it. The water is go away and spill over those brooks. The cultivative areas can be protected if this brooks will be re-construct in future.

I was born in 11^thSeptember 1990.I am seventeen years old. I have two sisters. They are Madhushani Maheshika and Nadeesha Sanjeewani those who study in Siddhartha Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura district. The main occupation of our family is business and my father’s name is Dharmasiri Wickamasooriya. He who looks after us works hard. I help my father to do his cultivates and business works. We have a chena and we cultivate more vegetables and more fruits there. At the same time wet cultivation is done. Our chena has a well and a water pump for supply water to plants. My mother is a housewife. Her name is Senarath Menike. My parents have a lot of hopes about me. Always they help me. I like to study about computer web designing, video editing, Graphic designing etc.My favorite subjects are English and science. My friend who always helps me is a good student. My hobbies are collecting stamps and collecting coins. It is very interesting. I have many old coins which were used in 1725 -1790. Some of them are VOC coin 1754 and VOC coin 1725.Those coins are very old coins used in Sri Lanka. Playing computer games and remixing songs, video editing are some of my enjoyable activities. Playing football with my friends also makes my life enjoyable.Our village is Mahavilachchiya.It’s near by Vilpaththu forest. It has many tanks and special places. My ambition is to be a web designer therefore I am working hard to achieve my ambition…

     I have a Pentium III computer. I am working with sharing my PC and some of software’s with my friends. I can some computer trouble shootings and hard working on computer and use the computer for my school lessons and all of my day-to-day activities. I am studying at Horizon Lanka Academy. I am learning five subjects at Horizon Lanka Academy. I am using computers for my every academic works. I go to school by my bicycle or by bus. I am interested in reading some English novels and English story books. I am learning computer at Horizon Lanka Academy. My favorite hobby is collecting coins. It is very interesting. At the same time we can improve our knowledge by finding this information. We are collecting stamps from our houses and another place. I have many old coins in my old coin collection. These days I am studying about blog design. Now I can create my own blog. After Wanni sir taught my friends I learnt it from my friends. Now they can create their own blogs and now they all have their own blogs…!

…:: My family And Village ::…

There are five members in my family. They are mother, father, two sisters and me. My father’s name is Dharmasiri Wickramasooriya. He is a good farmer and businessmen. He sells agricultural chemicals. My father can cultivate well. He knows about cultivation. We cultivate some of vegetables for sale. There are more vegetables and more fruits are cultivated there by us. Almost all the villagers know about my father. My father loves my village and country. My mother’s name is Senarath Menike. She is a good house-wife. My mother always helps us for our studies. She knows what field I should be go. She loves us very much. My younger sister like very much for MS Paint work shop and she likes to learn computer Works. So I think “I must help her too… for achieve her ambition”!

     Mahavilachchiya is a more beautiful village than other villages.I am very lucky to have a village like that village. It is very rich for natural resources. There is a large tank in our village. It has third place from the largest tanks in Sri Lanka. The main occupation of our village is Agriculture. To the best of my knowledge it is very had to do. Those farmers are leading a simple life. Always they are helping each other and try to do everything to the best of their ability. Because of rain they have started their cultivations. At the same time the reservoir of Mahavilachchiya is spilling over water. It is a beautiful view. The villagers who like enjoy go there and enjoy them selves. Not only has that Mahavilachchiya village had many beautiful places.Lunu Ela is one of the special places. It is a big brook starting from behind the Mahavilachchiya reservoir. It is going up to the sea, and falling down to sea at Mannar. It is width over 40 feet’s in some places. There are many bio diversities. Mahavilachchiya civilians use this water to their day-to-day activities and their cultivates. Farmers taking water to their paddy fields and their other cultivates. There are various fish and plants, So it is very useful for our farmers and fishery people. Some people are getting celebrations there and destroying the plants and threes. The people cutting trees for make furniture’s and build their houses. Some of people are coming from in various cities to there, for see these animals and the beauty of that big brook. There are many animals Some of them are Crocodiles, insects, reptiles and various birds. If we go there we can see many things what I referred above. 

…:: Horizon Lanka Academy ::…

HorizonLanka Academy started in ten years ago. Its founder who makes changes in our knowledge is Mr. Nandasiri Wanninayaka. He is working hard for make good society in our village. First time Horizon Lanka Academy had a computer and after starting the HLA with few students and they made a web site about Horizon Lanka Academy. Therefore, many volunteers came to develop this school and they gave scholarships. Miss Marissa Charles, the first foreign volunteer who opened the door for all the other volunteers. After that, there was a small building for the computer lab and had few computers there. The students became too many changes and got developed their knowledge about use of computers. After few years we had internet connection for three (3) computers. So we could do our uploading and e-mail sharing at the Horizon Lanka Academy. After visiting our web sites, many peoples came to HLA for opportunities. Subsequently our new computer lab was built by Mrs. Lovina Charles and gave us. Later we had few brand new computers. We use those computers for there web developing works and all the internet works. Now we have a new computer lab and many facilities are there. Any time we make Graphics, Videos, Songs and web sites using those computers. The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka and they are with us here to Mahavilachchiya e-Village program and the government very enthusiast about this school. The Horizon Lanka Academy is a work result of Mr.Nandasiri Wanninayaka…
